We have to say as we enter the second month of the season…and the first full weekend of D2 Baseball completed…we are absolutely LOVING this year. The level of competition across the board is something we have not seen in quite some time.
While we have some of the traditional powerhouses still hanging around, there are literally dozens of clubs competing this year like they haven’t in years, if ever. Clubs can now no longer take anyone for granted. And that makes for some great baseball!
This week, the defending champs, NOVA Southeastern, pop back up to #1. Lynn University got its act together after stumbling at the start and earns itself not only a regional, but a national ranking. St. Thomas Aquinas also got it’s season going and while early, we like their odds so far. The Pioneers of LIU Post are one of those teams we were talking about above, coming out of nowhere and even knocking off what was #7 Franklin Pierce. And finally, new to our rankings this week, the Northeastern State Riverhawks jump into the regional rankings by sweeping formerly #5 in the region, Northwest Missouri State.
We are now at March, where some conference play begins. Now things start getting bloody. We are sitting back, grabbing some more popcorn…and enjoying it all.
